Underground City - Cricova

The whole city of Chisinau is built of white stone - a shell catelets. This building material was abundantly stored for many years in the bowels of our Earth, and first people mined it by hand, and then began to create machinery to carve it on a large scale. But few people imagined that the empty corridors that will remain from the cutting of this stone, will later serve as a wonderful place for the creation of noble beverages - Moldovan wines. In the middle of the last century, it was studied that the constant temperature of 12-14 degrees Celsius, which persists throughout the year in these basements, and the high percentage of humidity, which also practically does not change either in winter or summer, serve as the best conditions for storing red and white wines. And this was the reason for the creation of wine storage in the underground corridors. Today it is one of the most visited places in Moldova by foreign guests, celebrities and dignitaries. One of them was Yuri Gagarin, who left a remarkable review, stored now as a relic, under glass.
