Airlines offer to exchange passengers on subsidized routes

Business representatives appealed to the head of Rosaviation Alexander Neradko with a proposal to study the possibility of applying commercial agreements on joint operation of flights (code-sharing) on subsidized routes.

The document was signed by the heads of Russian airlines: S7, Red Wings, IrAero, Utair, RusLine, UVT Aero and Airports of Regions holding.

The document was received in Rosaviation, and intend to support the initiative, said a source in the department. The possibility of using code-share agreements on subsidized routes will be discussed at the site of the Ministry of Transport. The date of the meeting is not yet known.

Code-sharing is used mainly for the organization of transfer transportation. Each airline that has entered into such an agreement sells through its own channels tickets for a flight that is actually operated by one of them.

Russian carriers today do not sign codeshare agreements on subsidized routes due to the risk of penalties, but the existing rules for the distribution of subsidies do not prohibit carriers from entering into such contracts.

The document notes that the use of codeshare agreements on subsidized routes will increase the choice of routes for passengers to their destination, increase transport accessibility in remote areas. Airlines will increase the occupancy of flights on subsidized routes, transfer passenger traffic will increase at airports. With this measure, the state will be able to improve the efficiency of budget spending.
