What hinders the development of sanatorium-resort holidays in Russia?
Sergey Romashkin, Vice-President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), is convinced that the growth of the share of new tourists in the market of sanatorium-resort holidays is hampered by the medical bureaucracy, which scares away potential customers of health resorts.
" . Beginners often do not understand the peculiarities of the medical bureaucracy - sanatorium cards, a certificate of epiduction. Debureaucratization would increase the flow of customers.”
At the same time, during the period of the pandemic, the number of new customers of domestic health resorts has increased: growth is recorded in all regions in terms of sanatorium and resort recreation.
Romashkin said that the number of overnight stays of tourists in sanatoriums has decreased.
Since 2021, our number has decreased from 10 to 9 nights. This is a long-term trend. In 2017, there were about 12 nights, respectively, in 5 years we lost 3 nights. The reasons could be the acceleration of the internal pace of life of tourists, the same trend as in the hotel market. Vacations became shorter, sanatorium-resort rest, too, the expert explained.
In the future, according to the expert, the flow of tourists to health resorts in Russia may subside due to lack of money from tourists and the high cost of sanatorium and resort holidays.
To date, the average check in Kavminvody without a road is 40 thousand rubles for 10-11 days of stay. Plus a road in the 60,000 area. This is the highest check in domestic tourism. The sanatorium and resort sector competes in the segment of expensive holidays, this greatly limits the choice of quality sanatoriums for tourists.”
