Europe to introduce vaccination passports

At the summit of the heads of state of the European Union agreed in principle on the issue of “vaccination passports”.

The initiative will be discussed in detail, but it was decided to take preparatory steps to introduce coveted documents in Europe by the summer.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that “cove passports” can be developed by the summer. According to her, the certificates will be developed in each EU country, and then the European Commission will make them “compatible”, and tourists will be able to use them when traveling in EU countries.

EU permanent representatives in Brussels will be working on the issue of vaccine passports over the next three months to “clear the issue technically and politically” in time for the summer tourist season.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the certificates will contain information about which vaccine was made, how many doses were administered and the level of immunity of its holder. Confidential information will not be shared.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that there is a discussion ahead about the circumstances in which this passport will be useful and what restrictions can be avoided with it. The President of the European Commission hastened travel countries interested in introducing vaccination passports. “If member states want the vaccination passport system to be introduced for the tourist season, they must act swiftly in their areas of responsibility.”

With more than 50 million vaccines distributed in the EU, 29 million people have been vaccinated, equivalent to 8% of the adult population of European Sluz. And in 20 EU countries, there is a downward trend in Covid-19 cases.
Ms. von der Leyen, in defiance of recent assessments of vaccine reliability issues, was generally positive: “The data that Israel shares with Pfizer is encouraging. If you have two doses of the vaccine, there are practically no infections.” An additional 200 million euros were allocated to study new varieties of the virus and update vaccines and tests, she said.
