Greece to pay for COVID-19 quarantine costs
Government Greece approved a decree according to which the country will pay for stay in quarantine hotels of foreigners with a positive test.
Russian tour operators believe that this will give Greece a serious advantage in the “post-type” competition of Mediterranean destinations.
According to a statement by Greek authorities on June 2, tourists who will be randomly tested for coronavirus on arrival in the country will be given 1 free night at the hotel until the test results are ready. If the test is positive, a tourist with COVID-19, depending on the condition, can be quarantined in certain hotels for 7 or 14 days (stays will be paid by Greece).
“Greece is one of the rare countries in the world where the government has already approved a provision on free quarantine accommodation of tourists with COVID-19 <...> The Russians, I am sure, will appreciate this gesture of the Greek government, it will be an extra plus in favor of Greece as a tourist destination after Russia lifts restrictions on travel of citizens abroad,” said G. Masmanides, director of Musenides Travel Greece.
Government Cyprus It also promises to pay the costs of tourists (food, treatment, accommodation) in case of infection on vacation. Independently, a foreigner will have to pay for a taxi to the airport and a flight to his homeland, but this document has not been finally approved.
