How will Russians celebrate the New Year in Turkey?

Experts told how many organized tourists from Russia will spend the New Year holidays in the resorts of Antalya and Istanbul, and how their vacation will be organized.

ATOR reports that from 21:00 on December 31 to 5:00 on January 4, a continuous curfew will be introduced. But the Turkish Interior Ministry has officially confirmed that tourists are exempt from its rules.

Other restrictions remain the same as on weekends. Markets, fish, grocery, vegetable, meat stores are open from 10:00-17:00. Bakeries are normal. Pharmacies and medical facilities are open. Restaurants and cafes can serve customers only for takeaway and delivery. Hotels will be opened, it is planned to work tourist transfers, retail outlets at airports.

According to tour operators, from December 31, 2020 to January 4, 2021, 3,000 organized tourists from Russia will be in Istanbul, and bookings are still underway. Approximately the same number of independent travelers from Russia will be in the city.

In the resorts of Antalya on these dates will be about 16-17 thousand organized tourists from Russia.

Ski resorts Turkey (Palandoken, Erciyes, Uludag, Kartalkaya, Davraz) on New Year’s dates will come this year much more tourists from Russia than a year ago. These complexes replaced the European "skiing". Approximately, in total, up to 1500-2500 Russians can rest on them.

In Antalya, vacationers will not feel de facto restrictions. Almost all organized tourists on New Year’s Eve live in all-inclusive hotels, and rarely go outside.

They can at any time freely walk, eat, visit restaurants and bars in hotels. The operating time of these establishments is not limited by curfew restrictions, but is determined by the hotel and the format of the all-inclusive and ultra-all-inclusive systems. In restaurants, guests are served from glazed windows by hotel employees.

New Year celebrations this year should, according to the rules, end at 22:00. In most hotels, the holiday “flows” into restaurants and bars.

In the open areas of Turkish hotels, masks are not necessary.

Guests can freely go out during the New Year holidays and outside the hotel – for example, to a pharmacy, bakery or grocery store. Visits to clinics are also allowed.

An important condition is to have with you (printed or photographed on the phone) a hotel voucher and air tickets. They will be proof of tourist status. Wearing a mask on the street is a must.

The situation in Istanbul is somewhat different. Here, the number of hotels operating for all-inclusive is very small, and city hotels, with rare exceptions, do not have their territory.

Most hotels work at breakfast with the possibility of ordering a paid dinner or lunch.

During the "New Year's lockdown" tourists can order food takeaway or room. Hot dishes are delivered in Istanbul from restaurants quickly - in 30 minutes, and very often free. The third option is to buy something in the store.

Guests can walk through the streets and squares. Pharmacies, grocery stores (alcohol is not sold during curfews), bakeries, clinics will be opened. The schedule of the museums 31.12 – 04.01 is specified.

In Istanbul, tourists on walks around the city need to have evidence of their status.

The situation with the organization of food in the ski resorts of Turkey will become clear in the near future, but there in the New Year holidaymakers will not remain hungry.
