When will the mask regime be abolished in Russia?

In February, two regions of the Russian Federation — Udmurtia and Chechnya — announced the complete abolition of the masked regime, but did not document it after criticism of federal officials and heads of other regions.

The key decision on the abolition of masks, obviously, should take Rospotrebnadzor.

The abolition of the mandatory wearing of masks in Russia will happen when almost two-thirds of the population will receive the vaccine. This was stated by Vadim Pokrovsky, Deputy Director of FBUN Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

“Until more than 60 percent of the population is immunized, it is completely impractical to abolish the mask regimen.”

Mass vaccination in Russia started in January 2021. In general, 2.2 million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in our country. Denis Logunov, deputy director for research at the Gamalei Center, said: “According to the optimistic scenario, the main part of the population’s vaccination can be carried out by mid-summer, so that the figure of 70% of the immune layer is reached.”

There is also a pessimistic scenario in which the bulk of the vaccination will be completed before the beginning of autumn - and then the mask will be allowed not to wear.
