Finnish Ministry of Health is preparing amendments to the law on tourism, which will change the principle of entry of tourists
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of the Republic plans to introduce a “cove” addition to the law on tourism in the parliament. Finland Amendments to the Travel Restrictions Act.
The changes are devoted to the implementation of the principled decision on health safety in tourism.
Krista Kiuru, Finland’s minister for family and social services, did not comment on whether the amendments would be aimed at improving health safety by imposing strict restrictions on tourists, or supporting the tourism industry by relaxing restrictions to reasonable standards.
The Yle news agency noted that the decision to amend has already been criticized, especially by the tourist industry in Finnish Lapland, which could disrupt the high tourist season on Christmas.
Kirsi Varhila, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, said that both types of amendments, which are aimed at facilitating admission and tightening, are possible and will be considered.
A recent decision by the Finnish government says tourists from countries with high coronavirus incidence must present evidence of a negative infection test that was conducted less than 72 hours before entry.
They can be quarantined on arrival in Finland, which tourists can reduce by giving a second negative result no earlier than 72 hours after entry.
This approach is criticized by representatives of the travel industry – winter tourism in Lapland, combined with quarantine and tests will not stand – tourists will not go to Joulupucca.
However, there is a loophole: the decision says travelers who spend less than three days in the country should not take a second test or comply with a two-week quarantine.
The Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) has proposed amendments to the Infectious Diseases Act to allow tourists visiting the country for five to seven days – the duration of most winter tours – to avoid quarantine and a second Covid-19 test. But opponents of this approach were found in the Ministry of health.
