New anticove restrictions in Turkey: what should tourists know?
In Turkey From 20.00 on Friday 20.11.2020, the President introduces anticoronavirus restrictions in all provinces.
The measures do not apply to logistics and transport companies (transfers, excursions).
Urban transport in Istanbul and Antalya works as usual.
Accommodation facilities (including private apartments) are not affected by the measures - they continue to work as usual.
For foreign guests of Antalya hotels, nothing will change. Tourists in hotels in Istanbul do not need to fear for service - breakfast, lunch, dinner will be performed on schedule.
Tourists in Istanbul live in hotels with breakfast or half board and eat in the city. With this food will be more difficult, but they will not remain hungry.
From 20.00 on Friday 20 November, restaurants, confectionery, tea gardens, coffee shops, cafes and other catering establishments in Turkey will work from 10:00 to 20:00 - sell takeaway food (with themselves) or with delivery.
From November 20, shopping centers, grocery stores, hairdressers and beauty salons in Turkey will be open from 10:00 to 20:00.
Medical care for tourists will not be stopped: insurance policies are valid, the service is as usual.
On weekend evenings, a curfew is introduced (prohibition of going out): from 20:00 every Saturday to 10:00 Sunday and from 20:00 Sunday to 05:00 Monday - until a special order.
Residents of Turkey 65 years and older can walk only on weekdays from 10:00 to 13:00, and the age group up to 20 years - from 13:00 to 16:00.
Host Turkish companies and tour operators of the Russian Federation pay attention: in the document of the President of Turkey, the expression “vatandaşlarımız” (“our citizens”) is used, and there is no mention of “foreigners” or “tourists”.
Experts conclude that foreign tourists in Turkey are most likely not subject to curfew clauses and “windows” for age groups.
The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies TÜRSAB issued a statement saying that tourists (if they have confirmation of this) in Turkey are not subject to the provisions of the decree on age groups and curfew. To avoid any doubt, TÜRSAB sent a request to the Turkish Interior Ministry.
It is advisable for Russian tourists to have their passport with them, and a printed voucher or screenshot / photo.
Museums are not mentioned in the document. Tour operators are waiting for clarification on the mode of their work.
In Turkey recently banned smoking (both citizens and tourists) in crowded streets and squares. This measure is positioned as “anticoronavirus” (so that people do not remove their masks), but you can remove the mask if you need to drink.
In Turkey, it is mandatory to wear a mask on the street in all provinces. For non-compliance with the requirement, fines are due.
Conclusions for Tourists
Tourists in hotels in the province of Antalya with an all-inclusive system will hardly notice the new restrictions - most do not leave the hotels.
The curfew in the evenings on the weekend will not disrupt the rest and transfers of tourists.
For tourists in Istanbul, walks, excursions and independent sightseeing will be available. The only inconvenience - the work of catering establishments takeaway (packaged food) and until 20.00.
