Should I take a coronavirus test after returning from Abkhazia
Rospotrebnadzor officially clarified the situation with the return of Russian tourists from Abkhazia.
Russia and Abkhazia restored limited due to the coronavirus pandemic pedestrian and road transport links at the border from August 1.
On the Abkhaz direction, one-day excursion tours from Sochi resumed, and Russian tourists went to the resorts in Abkhazia.
According to the decree of Rospotrebnadzor dated July 7, 2020, citizens of the Russian Federation returning from abroad by air must pass a PCR test within three days and upload its results to the State Service portal.
The situation with Abkhazia is different: Russia does not have air links with this country. The border with Abkhazia is land: it is crossed by road, rail (from August 7) or on foot.
Crossing the border occurs without additional conditions: when entering both directions, travelers are not asked for a certificate of absence of coronavirus and do not require a 14-day quarantine.
Rospotrebnadzor reports: “...Sanitary and quarantine control is being carried out in respect of residents of the Russian Federation returning from Abkhazia (by road transport, on pedestrian crossings). Thermal imagers are used for remote thermometry of citizens. Cases of crossing the border by citizens with elevated body temperature during the spread of a new coronavirus infection have not been registered. A two-week quarantine for tourists traveling from Abkhazia to the territory of the Russian Federation should not be observed.”
It follows from the official response of the Ministry that Russian tourists do not need to undergo a PCR test within 72 hours after returning to the Russian Federation and upload the results to the State Services portal (as is the case for travelers on air transport).
