Tourist fee for all regions - industry experts opposed the initiative

Recently, the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko took the initiative to allow all regions of Russia to introduce a tourist fee.

Industry representatives were skeptical of the idea. For example, Andrey Ignatiev, President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, reminded that such ideas can negatively affect existing positive initiatives.

The critical state of the industry does not allow for additional burden on market participants.

Tourist tax is levied in Europe, but there VAT on average - 10.5%, and in Russia - 20%. According to him, the introduction of the fee can be discussed after the VAT reduction.

V. Matvienko proposes to direct the funds received from the tax for the restoration of architectural monuments. Sergei Shpilko, head of the commission on tourism and hospitality industry of the RSPP, argues that the problem with historical objects arises not because of the lack of collection, but the reason is in the structure of the budget system of Russia: most of the region’s revenues go to the federal budget.

According to Shpilko, the subjects of Russia will not stop at the low rate of 50 RUB proposed by Matvienko, but will always increase it.
