Wine Festival in Portugal
Description:
Tables are installed on the streets, food is prepared, and wine cellars, closed throughout the year, open their doors, inviting everyone to tasting. In some village, you can even participate in the preparation of Madeira.
There are several legends about the origin of the symbol of Madeira – wine, for which the name “madera” was established in Russian. The most popular story tells of a merchant who took his wine to the continent, part of the barrels did not fit in the hold, and was on the deck under the scorching sun. To top it all off, the ship hit a storm...
In general, the wine was considered ruined, but upon arrival it turned out that this hopeless commodity – exhausted under the sun and caught under the shaft of storm waters – not only did not spoil, but also mysteriously acquired an extraordinary taste.
Later, winemakers learned to give this shade of wine, without sea travel. Now Madera is kept in oak barrels on sunny platforms, turning them over from time to time.
