The Church of the Savior of the Unmade Image in the Rows
kostroma, city center, Red rows
Description:
The chronicles mention the wooden temple of the Savior in the Rows since 1628. The stone church was built according to the traditions of pre-Petrine times. A five-headed pillarless temple was built, which had one apse. They sanctified it in honor of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord, despite the fact that the former temple of wood is dedicated to the Most Merciful Savior. Kostrom residents still call this church Spasskaya. When the Gostiny Dvor was built in 1970 near the gates that lead to the Volga, a new gate bell tower was erected.
The building is made in a classical style. The belfry has four tiers and high arched passage gates. The top of the building is crowned with a tent and a high spire. It stands out from other architecture. Walking through the streets of Kostroma, you can enjoy the shimmering sounds that bells make.
The temple of the Savior in the Rows is active, so you can visit it if you wish. The Red Rows and the Church of the Savior in the Rows are significant sights of Kostroma. With their snow-white appearance, they decorate the city.
