Kostroma

Monument to the dog

Description:

One of the favorite architectural structures of Kostroma is the monument to the dog "Bobke". It is known that this is not a fictional character. This dog actually lived in the 19th century and became famous for being part of the city's fire department. She participated in extinguishing all fires and always accompanied firefighters on the road.

She was especially famous for the writer Leonid Kolgushkin, who immortalized the fire feats of the dog in his stories.

The dog is depicted in life size and weighs as much as 150 kilograms. Nearby, a small piggy bank was established, to which everyone can donate money for the maintenance of local shelters for stray dogs.

The monument to the dog Bobke is a kind of symbol of mercy of Kostroma and reminds residents that animals are creatures that also know how to feel, help and empathize.

You can admire the monument by public transport to the stop "Ivan Susanin Square".
