Monument to Yuri Dolgoruky
Description:
One of the oldest monuments dedicated to the founder of Kostroma - Yuri Dolgoruky, is located in the very center of the city.
The monument is the image of the Grand Duke, who sits on the bench. He stretched his right hand forward towards the Volga, so the author wanted to say that the prince pointed to the place where the city should be erected. In the left hand of the prince is an imposing sword decorated with an Orthodox cross and crown.
It was built relatively recently - in 2003 thanks to donations from local residents and entrepreneurs.
The monument is quite large in size. Its weight exceeds 4 tons, and in height it reaches 4.5 meters.
Local residents say that Patriarch Kirill came to the place before the installation and brought a capsule with a piece of land taken from the grave of the Grand Duke. Then a stone was installed in this place, which began to flow.
