Left bank, right bank... Road bridge in Kostroma

The road bridge across the Volga in Kostroma was opened on September 12, 1970.

While the main modes of transport were horse and river, the connection of the two Volga coasts in Kostroma was not thought of. Was floating through Kostromka, it was demolished - and immediately established a new crossing.

The transport revolution of the middle of the XIX century. transferred freight traffic to the railways. kostromichFedor Chizhovconsidered it more rational to launch flows to the North through Yaroslavl. Kostroma remained a dead end station until the construction of the railway bridge in the early 1930s.

In the meantime, goods have switched to road transport – it has proved to be more efficient and less expensive. The construction of two pedestrian bridges across the Volga was planned before the war, but hands to the district center of the Yaroslavl region did not reach.

Connection of the right bank with the left for the benefit of vehicles began in 1965. The project of the Institute "Giprotransmost" liked and in 1973 was awarded the prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

In Kostroma led the work of Bridge Detachment No. 6. The work was not easy – it was necessary to extract materials, numerous underground communications interfered. But pressed the centenary of the leader and therefore the grand opening took place on April 21, 1970.

They were transported and closed for revision. The real launch took place on September 12, 1970.

The construction of the second bridge is traditionally promised to Kostromiki before each gubernatorial election.
