Sevastopol

Northern Sevastopol

Description:

The northern side of Sevastopol is somewhat deprived of the attention of travelers: there are almost no restaurants and hotels; not such a high density of memorable places as on the Central or Ship sides. At the same time, the northern part of the city is famous for several fortifications; the hospital in which Pirogov worked during the Crimean War and Nakhimov died; the memorial Brotherly Cemetery with a pyramidal temple. It is nice to relax in a small modern park with access to the sandy beach in Uchkuevka.

The main thing: the Mikhailovsky or Konstantinovsky battery, the Pyramidal temple, the Brotherly cemetery, the ferry crossing through the Sevastopol Bay.

The northern side of Sevastopol is always in sight of millions of tourists going out to take a walk on the Kornilov embankment, and serves as a natural background for a huge number of photos of the Sevastopol Bay. At first glance, this is only a gloomy cluster of gray high-rise buildings on the slopes of the hills of the opposite bank. The eye of the attentive traveler opens and Cape Cordon with an obelisk and flag, and the pyramid of St. Nicholas Cathedral in the Bratsky cemetery, and two ravelins: Mikhailovsky and, closer to the Sea Gate, Konstantinovsky. Traces of the heroic past remained on their walls after the restoration. In the authentic casemates there are expositions of museums telling about the military history of Sevastopol: military uniforms, insignia of the military majority of the armies that fought in the Crimea, unique manuscripts and photographs, models and reconstructions of hostilities.

Optional (agreed in advance): on the way - Laspi Passes and Baidar Gate, Foros Church; in Balaklava - a monument to the Russian soldiers of the Balaklava battle, "English" embankment (independent walk), a walk on a Botica along Balaklava Bay, in Sevastopol - the memorial complex "Malakhov Kurgan", the museum-panorama "Defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855", a boat tour along the Sevastopol bay, a memorial sign at the Buchon temple. Istomin, monuments of the boulevards of Sevastopol (Historical, Primorsky, Matrossky), Vladimir Maritime Cathedral and the tomb of admirals, the Museum of the History of the Black Sea Fleet, Pokrovsky Cathedral arch.
