Giant Omelette Day in the United States

Description:

Every year prepare a large Friendship omelet of 5000 eggs, 6 liters of oil, 25 liters of milk.
On the first Saturday of November in Louisiana, USA, residents celebrate Giant Omelette Day since 1985.

It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte himself was a passionate fan of the omelet. According to an old legend, once Napoleon and his comrades stopped for the night in the town of Bessier, where he was treated to a local delicacy called “Kurochkin gift”.

Having tried the “gift”, Vladyka came into wild delight and ordered to instantly collect all the chicken eggs available in the vicinity and prepare a giant omelet for the entire army from them. In memory of this event in Bessier and to this day arrange the Omelette Festival.

According to the cooks, the omelet is an outstanding snack: after all, this dish was respected not only by Napoleon, but also by other powerful rulers. Take the Austrian Kaiser Franz Joseph, who called the omelet “a wonderful gift of God.”

According to legend, the “gift” of heaven was pampered by Franz Joseph when he was twenty years old – until that moment he had never heard of any omelet, since the latter was considered the food of commoners, for the imperial meal was not intended at all.

Once Vladyka, going for a walk, found with horror that he had fought off his retinue and lost his way in a remote forest. Pushing through the wilds, he finally saw a light and soon got out to the tiny peasant hut, where he was greeted with all cordiality. The hostess hastily built a festive omelet for Franz Joseph: she mixed milk, eggs, flour and sugar, poured the mixture on the pan, slightly fried it, and then quickly cut all this splendor with thin strips with a sharp knife, roasted them, sprinkled sugar and served the Kaiser along with a plum compote.

Franz Josef loved the delicious dish, and on returning home, he ordered the court chefs to cook him a "peasant snack" every day. Since then, the sweet omelet has been called "Kaisershmarren" - translated from the German "Kaiser strip".

Connoisseurs assure that a real omelet should be o-o-o-o- very large, and it is better to feast on them in friendly company.

This recommendation is followed by chefs from the US state of Louisiana, who annually prepare a large Friendship omelet of 5,000 eggs, 6 liters of butter, 25 liters of milk and 10 kg of greens and treat them to guests.
