Easter
Description:
Cross buns (called "boon") and cheese are typical Easter traditions for Jamaica, like Easter eggs and a rabbit for North Americans.
Boone is a large part of Jamaican culture. The tradition associated with baking muffins dates back to ancient Babylon, when according to legend, muffins with images of the cross were offered to people by the pagan queen of heaven - Ishtar. The ancient Greeks made similar cakes in honor of the moon.
The perfect addition to Easter buns was cheese – but cheese is not any, and processed in a special way cheddar. They cut it in half an inch each.
It should be noted that the tradition of treating each other with Easter buns came to Jamaica from England. In England, buns with images of the cross, which symbolized Christ, was made to bake on the Friday before Easter. When the British conquered Jamaica, of course, these traditions were adopted by the natives of the island.
