How is COVID-19 changing the travel market?
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to terrorize the planet and humanity is coming to terms with changing living conditions. Changing mentality, attitude to everyday things, to work and rest.
For experts, analysts, futurologists – a real expanse: make predictions about the future of the world and the development of specific industries, argue.
One of the current topics is the further development of the travel market. Will this market continue? And if so, in what form?
Travel will make sense.
The rampant coronavirus has hurt the tourism sector. It is hard to believe that until relatively recently, capitals, resorts and places with popular attractions complained about the so-called overtourism – an overabundance of visitors.
Somewhere locals even:
- carried out actions against “caught” tourists;
- required the authorities to take action;
- The walls were decorated with inscriptions: Tourist, go home!
Now the authorities of popular cities, such as Venice, are analyzing the pros and cons.
On the one hand, there are huge losses. On the other hand, there are clear positive aspects of the disappearance of tourist crowds on the streets.
How to remove the disadvantages and save the pros?
Perhaps the way out is in the concept of meaningful tourism, that is, in the eradication of travel “for the sake of the tick”: to “check in” in a popular place and fill Instagram with “photos”.
If this can be implemented, the tourist flow will not be so intense, but those travelers who are really interested in the sights will be able to get acquainted with them. In a more comfortable environment than before.
Development of domestic tourism
Apparently, this is the main trend of the near future. Most countries are not ready to allow foreigners to their resorts, who can bring an infection with them. Therefore, we can only talk about domestic tourism, and even then in those countries where bans on the movement of citizens have been lifted.
The tourism sector in these conditions will have to bet on “their own”. In turn, those who wish to travel will have to choose affordable places in their home country, or even closer to home.
On the one hand, this limits the choice of tourists and reduces the income of many entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, on the other hand, it gives an incentive to explore native lands and develop domestic tourism.
Some regions may even benefit from this. But still, it is obvious that in the traditional world health resorts, people remember the precoronavirus era with longing. In Turkey, for example, no domestic tourism compensates for the loss of foreign tourists.
Technology
Due to the spread of infection, there was a need for technology development. People who had the opportunity to go to work online did so, thereby developing their activities.
Those who work in the field of tourism also had to take action - the main ones are galleries, museums, attractions and other places that cannot be completely translated into online mode.
Some major places have set a perfect example for others: one of the parks of the Netherlands went online, continuing to please lovers of creativity, in Greece launched a tourist project for lovers of landscapes, the Tretyakov Gallery holds exhibitions in online format, and Egypt has electronically transferred all its tours to ancient tombs.
Of course, in comparison, the electronic environment will yield to the living, but the introduction of technology, of course, is a big plus for the population. The quarantine is sure to end, and new developments will remain, and will please people in many years.
The human factor
Of course, this factor is always more difficult to predict and think about. What will happen to people after self-isolation, how will they behave? They will be cautious or will break into a trip to different countries, wanting to enjoy real scenery and views.
How easy it will be for a person to sit next to a stranger on an airplane after so many months of following all the rules and precautions.

Save the situation and tourism can be safe individual travel, which is conducted by private guides.
