Attractions of Varadero
The character of Miguel de Cervantes Don Quixote of La Mancha, who conquered readers with his romantic nature, served as an inspiration for sculptors around the world. One of the brightest works dedicated to the noble hidalgo is a monument in the city of Varadero in Cuba.
The equestrian sculpture of Don Quixote with a spear in his hand and a lone donkey, located just behind without a rider, are turned towards the tower. The original modernist technique looks particularly picturesque at sunset, since the animalistic figures are made of strips of metal resembling hatching, and the light of the sunset gives the sculptural group the effect of sketching.
The monument is located on Avenidas Las Americas, on the top of a hill.
A huge concrete sculpture towers over the Varadero-Cardenas Ciudad Cuba highway. Monument to a crab is a symbol of the city of Cardenas.
During the rainy season you can see them in great numbers. Sand or white crabs appear on the streets at night. Their numerous procession from the Atlantic Ocean looks very impressive.
The monument is located at the entrance to Cárdenas, at the intersection, near the Estación de Ferrocarriles railway station.
If you go from Varadero to Havana, you will see this concrete beast.
Avenida Primera is the main street of the Cuban resort town of Vardero. Here tourists will be able to find everything for themselves - shopping, rest, entertainment. The street is quite busy. Once on it, you feel the unique Cuban flavor and atmosphere of the holiday. Along the street are shopping centers, clubs, shops, cafes and restaurants.
There are no prim frames: locals can start dancing, hearing a familiar melody. There is joy, fun, positivity, laughter, music. There are also souvenir shops where everyone will find something for themselves. Located a kilometer from the city center, you can get there on foot or take a taxi.
The resort town of Vardero is famous for its beaches stretching for 20 kilometers along the Caribbean coast.
They are in the TOP of the best not only in the country but also in the world. The fringe sandy coast, warm crystal clear water, developed infrastructure attracts tourists. Restaurants, hotels, cafes, diving centers are on each of them. Water entertainment is also presented - surfing, scuba diving, scooters, catamarans and boats, swimming with dolphins. Coral reefs protect tourists from large waves. The entrance to the water is shallow, ideal places for a family holiday. The beaches are spacious and not very busy even in season. Rescue teams are working.
All the beaches of the city coast are united by one name Varadero Beach. They're free.
Matanzas Founded in 1693, it is located on the northern coast of Cuba, the administrative center of the province of the same name.
Matanzas is called “the city of bridges” (there are 17 in the city), “Cuban Venice”, “Cuban Athens”.
The city is 90 km east of Havana and 32 km west of the resort of Varadero.
Attractions of Matanzas
Bellamar Caves are located three kilometers from the Cuban town of Mantanzas. They have a length of about 3 kilometers, but the site is only 300 meters long. The caves are up to 50 meters deep. The eyes open colored crystals on the ceilings, flickering in lighting, stalactites and stalagmites. The age of crystals is more than 40 thousand years.
The caves have an interesting history. They were discovered in 1850 by shepherds looking for a lost sheep. But even after that, no one dared to go there, believing that dark forces dwell there. Only a hundred years later, speleologists began internal research and discovered the amazing beauty of the grotto.
Studies of individual rooms are still ongoing. The Columbus Cloak deserves special attention. The so-called formation of crystals, whose height is 12 meters. The shape resembles a falling cloak (hence the name). Inside the cave there is also a stream and karst lakes.
The Cave of Saturn (Cuba, Matanzas) is one of the most famous sights of the country, located near Varadero, on the way to the city of Matanzas. Now Cave of Saturn attracts numerous tourists with the healing power of the air and crystal clear waters, and once the specified place, discovered by a group of refugees, served as a refuge and infirmary for all who suffered during the hostilities (the struggle for independence in 1895).
The karst cave is distinguished by artificial lighting, stairs for ease of descent / ascent, which allows visitors to get acquainted with natural stalactites and a cave lake with amazing fish. Currently, tourists can use diving equipment to dive into the cool lake waters, and a visit to Cave of Saturn is included in the “jeep safari” tour.
15 kilometers from Playa Larga and near the Strait of Pigs is a place that tourists are happy to visit - the Cave of Fish.
For divers, this is truly a paradise for diving. The depth is about 80 meters, so you can dive only with serious experience behind your shoulders or with an instructor. If you are not at risk of going underwater.
From the shore you can also see the amazing inhabitants of this place. The cave is of karst origin - it was washed out by groundwater. The slopes are vertical. So it looks more like a lake. Here mixed groundwater and salt sea water. The last one comes in through an underground tunnel.
The water is so clear and clear that you can see everything that happens inside the lake. Coral fish, flora and fauna are unique. Tourists usually take bread with them to feed the fish and see them closer. You can get there by taxi or rented car from Playa Larga.
