Ancient cities of Russia: Yuriev-Polish

Yuriev-Polish is the same age as Moscow and even a kind of “relative” of the Russian capital, it was founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky.

The city is in opole (the name of the fertile lands in the Vladimir region) - hence the second part of the name.

Yuryev-Polish is located away from major roads and popular tourist routes. On the one hand, this allowed the city to preserve its uniqueness: a special authenticity and the spirit of antiquity.

But on the other hand, it is not easy to get to Yuryev-Polish - it is most convenient to come by your own car or contact the services of guides with personal vehicles.

Other options are to take the bus from Vladimir. Pereslavl-Zalesskyor Alexandrova (about two hours on the road). The direct bus from Moscow will take from four to five hours.

The train from Moscow stops in the city late at night, there are suburban destinations - from Alexandrov or Ivanovo.
