Herring Festival in Finland

Description:

Herring.
Without what does not do any Russian feast? That's right, no herring. After all, we always believed that herring is a purely Russian delicacy. But that's far from it. True admirers and fans of this fish live in Finland.

And, every year, at the beginning of October (this year from October 2 to 8), all the admirers of the Finnish herring delicacy come to Helsinki for the annual herring fair.

The fair takes place on the Market Square of the city, where the herring of the last catch this year is brought in huge quantities. Fish can be tasted in salted and slightly salted form, and under a marinade, and with mustard, and with sauce.

This fish market, or as it is called by the Finns, "fish festival", has a long history and has existed since the XVIII century.

The license to hold the fair was issued by a Swedish royal decree in Finland as part of the Treaty of Turku of 1743. Over the years, the fair has become an important event, determining the price of salted and pickled fish throughout Finland.
