Wine tour - a trip to the Meissen area
Description:
When we talk about German wines, we immediately recall the traditional areas of western and southern Germany, where the vine planted thousands of hectares. Moselle, Rhine, Palatinate ... no, not about them, the famous, promoted, proud will be discussed, but about those produced in the smallest and northernmost of the thirteen wine regions of the country.
Viticulture and winemaking here in Saxony, in the valley of the Elbe, began more than 850 years ago. Today, about 50 different varieties are grown, the most famous of which is the Golden Riesling, the most common - Müller-Torgau, and the fragrant, with a bouquet of black currant - Shoyrebe. Growing, produce a wide palette of wines: from light sparkling, to sweet, viscous, born from ice cream berries, the so-called “ice wines”.
White dry Meissen wines, without residual sugar, with a floral-fruit aroma, are highly appreciated by experts. This is a rarity, a treasure, you can enjoy them only here, in the places of production. No wonder they say that if Meissen wine disappeared from sale, then it is already drunk.
Of course, we will not go around 2,500 farms on 500 hectares, but after driving along the famous Saxon wine route, we will knock and enter a couple of vineyards.
We leave Dresden first to the city of Meissen. There, walking a sightseeing tour of the historical center, move to the other shore and ... further along the Elbe, where the wine terraces are around.
