Motovun

Truffles and more. (Motovun, Grozhnyan, Hum)

Description:

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the famous Croatian writer Vladimir Nazor settled the hero of his novel, the giant Jozha, in the city of Motovun, located on the top of a hill at an altitude of 277 meters above sea level in central Istria.

This small town is one of the most visited places of the peninsula by tourists. From its fortress walls and observation platforms, a beautiful view of the valley of the Mirna River opens. Every year in July, the central square of the city turns into an open-air cinema. The Motovun International Film Festival takes place here. Well, of course, they come here to try the famous Istra truffles that grow in the forests, at the foot of Motovun, as well as products and dishes with the addition of these mushrooms, which we will definitely taste accompanied by local rakiya "Biska" and magical blackberry wine. We will also learn the history of the truffle record holder, listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

The next point of our route is the town of Grozhnyan. We will walk through the narrow streets of this small Istra town, learn what crafts were popular here during the Middle Ages, and why local weavers were forbidden to hang freshly-woven fabric on the city walls, as well as how in the mid-60s of the 20th century this town, which had come to complete desolation, turned into a city of art galleries, music festivals and summer youth art school.

Well, "for dessert" at the end of the program is the smallest city in the world, called Hum, the path to which lies through the so-called "Alley of Glagolas". Who were the verbs? How many people live in the smallest city in the world? We'll find out on our tour. Passing through the forged city gates, we get into a fairy tale and go for a walk along the only! street of the city, dipping into the events of centuries ago.

Finally, we will try the famous “Istrina soup” in the traditional humm horse. Is it soup? Here's the question! We won't know until we try!
