Soave - a medieval town and its castle
Description:
I advise you to combine a visit to the town of Soave and the castle with a tasting at the winery of local white wines and red wines in the Soave Classico zone.
At the foot of the hills of Lessinia, shrouded in distant foggy times, stands the charming medieval Borgo Soave, known throughout the world for its valuable white wine. In Soava, you can forget about the existence of the world and immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape and flavors.
The name Soave most likely comes from the Swedes, a people who came from the north, Suavium or Suave, which means “territory of the Swedes”. Soave is completely surrounded by medieval fortress walls erected in the XIV century, which are a unique symbol of Soave.
Above the Borgo stands a medieval castle of the X century, built on the initiative of Berengario I, King of Italy. It is a typical military structure, occupying a strategic position and dominating the entire surrounding plain. From the main fortress tower you can admire the panorama of green lush vineyards and medieval walls.
The term soave means “gentle, soft”, which fully epitomizes the mysterious and romantic atmosphere of this Borg. Soave became famous for its fragrant white wine, which is made from an autochthonous white grape variety, Garganeg. Thus was born white wine Soave and dessert Rechoto di Soave. White wines of Soave have been appreciated since ancient times and reached the table of the emperor himself.
