Kota Kinabalu

Culinary workshop

Description:

Meeting at a hotel or airport upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu. Departure to the Penampang area to the popular market of the Kadazandusun tribe, or as the locals call it Tamu in Dongonggon. The trip from Kota Kinabalu to the market takes only 15 minutes. The market is open on Thursdays and Fridays. It is on these days that all the area's farmers come to market to sell their own produce, ranging from fresh vegetables and fruits to handicrafts. You will have the opportunity to stroll around the market and experience local delicacies such as tapai or lihing (rice wine), jars of bambangan (wild pickled mango), or truly exotic products such as Sago worms and tuhau (ginger, crushed and mixed with lime juice, onions and chili peppers). After a walk through the market, we will make joint purchases for a culinary master class and head to the locals’ house, which is a short drive from the market. In the house of local residents will be demonstrated the process of cooking local cuisine. If you wish, you can also take part in cooking. Hospitable hosts will tell you about the ways of cooking and receiving all dishes of the culinary master class. After cooking, you will be asked to enjoy the dishes you have prepared.
