When will restrictions be lifted from Russians? Statement by Rosturism

Tourism without closed borders and restrictions will return for Russian tourists no earlier than the second half of 2021, the situation depends on epidemiological indicators. This forecast was voiced by the head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova.

“The resumption of active international tourist flows is unlikely to begin before the second half of 2021,” said Z. Doguzova. In an interview with TASS, she focused not on outbound, but on inbound and domestic tourism.

We hope that the recovery of domestic tourism will continue next year. It will depend on how the epidemiological situation develops. I think that next year, in a favorable scenario, will be spent on the restoration of pre-crisis indicators.”

According to the head of Rostourism, if we talk about the turnover of the industry as a whole, then “it depends heavily on incoming flows.” Inbound flows, I do not think they will recover until 2022. And if we talk about such active tourist flows, I do not think that this will happen before the second half of next year.”

According to ATOR experts, the volume of outbound tourist flow from Russia for 2020 fell by 77% compared to 2019.

So far, Russians have to fly “where they take”: these are 16 countries with which direct regular flights have officially resumed – Turkey, Great Britain, Tanzania, Switzerland, the UAE, the Maldives, Egypt, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Serbia, Cuba, Japan, Seychelles, Ethiopia.

It is possible that Sri Lanka will be added to this list, which plans to open for the New Year holidays for the “dosed” tourist flow from Russia. The country’s two international airports, Bandaranaike Airport (BIA), Katunayake Airport and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Mattala, will partially operate from December 29 to January 16 to receive Russians. Such information former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Udayanga Viratunga told The Island Financial Review.
