Phuket Plan October 1 or When will the island cancel quarantine for vaccinated tourists?

Bloomberg reports that business companies Thailand (including the Phuket Chamber of Commerce and the Phuket Tourist Association), which are associated with vacations on the island, want to unite and conduct mass vaccination at their own expense.

Businessmen hope that after the formation of collective immunity among residents of the region, the Thai authorities will abolish the mandatory quarantine for foreigners. Those who are vaccinated will be able to come to the island without two weeks of isolation.

Vaccination of a sufficient number of people (70% of the population over the age of 18) should be completed by October. Thai authorities, as noted by the Agency, expect that herd immunity in residents of the state thanks to the vaccine will appear no earlier than 2022.

The participants of the initiative called their plan “Phuket October 1”. The company intends to use the vaccine Sinovac Biotech Ltd (China).

The tourism industry in Phuket has been hit harder than in most other regions of the country. Phuket plays a huge role in the Thai economy, and stakeholders are eager to bring overseas tourists back to the island quickly. Phuket could become a pilot site for Thailand’s resumption of tourism and, if successful, other resorts will open up for travelers. This can be expected by early 2022.
