Fears of travelers in the coronavirus era: what are Russian tourists afraid of?

What do tourists fear when planning their vacation this summer? The coronavirus epidemic and the restrictions imposed due to it have made significant changes in the psychology of tourists and their approach to planning future travel.

Alexander Kazin, director of the travel agency Ingostur, summarized the list of things that are most disturbing to tourists.

  • Fear of infection at the airport, plane, bus;
  • the risk of limiting the movement of personal vehicles in different regions;
  • fear of placement in the observatory at your own expense (from 1700 to 2000 rubles per day per person for 14 days, which for a family of three will be from 71’400 to 84’000 rubles, and the loss of two vacation weeks);
  • the risk of restricting access to beaches;
  • the risk of an outbreak of infection at the resort (in Moscow, the coronavirus is declining, in the regions, growth is still possible);
  • fear of possible unpreparedness of medicine in the resorts in the event of a coronavirus outbreak;
  • the risk of closing flights in the event of an outbreak of infection at the resort;
  • the risk of getting into the observatory in your hometown after returning from a trip (this measure is promised when returning from foreign resorts, but such actions cannot be excluded in the case of domestic travel).

Different branches of government and authorities of different regions broadcast often opposite in meaning advice and instructions, and sometimes they contradict even common sense.

For example, the expert referred to a quote on the Krasnodar Territory from the website russia.travel, owned by Rosturizm: “It is not recommended to use a personal car for travel. It is better to get to the resting place by train or plane. Passage is allowed on personal road transport or organized transfer in the presence of a sanatorium-resort tour or other document confirming the reservation. A permit is required to travel by road within the Krasnodar Territory.”

Ah. Kazin asks, “Why is the plane better and not recommended for a private car?” A personal car is clearly safer in terms of infection. Are traffic restrictions planned? How and where to get permission? Or don’t you have to do it with a voucher? How will this be monitored?”
