Thailand offers tourists an alternative to hotel quarantine

In Thailand came up with a new format for tourists to pass mandatory quarantine.

Instead of a hotel room, travelers will be able to choose a yacht, and the movements of tourists will be monitored by special bracelets.

Following the quarantine at the golf resort and luxury villas, Thailand will offer foreign tourists another 14-day quarantine option. Wealthy travelers will be able to depart isolation on a yacht near the coast on Phuket Island.

The digital quarantine program on yachts using smart bracelets will be launched by the Digital Economy Development Agency (Depa), mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS), tour operators of Phuket.

Yachts will be allowed to sail no further than 10 km from the coast, so that the location of tourists can be tracked by GPS. Trackers will collect medical information: measure pulse, pressure, temperature. This data will be sent to the medical services responsible for quarantining foreigners.

According to Depa, the use of the bracelet will ensure the safety of guests: in the event of any incident, tourists will be able to send an emergency SOS signal.

The tracker, designed for 4 days of autonomous operation, will allow you to track the whereabouts of foreigners if they get lost.

The quarantine on the yacht is expected to bring the Thai economy 1.8 billion baht. According to forecasts, about 100 yachts will take part in this program, and from 300 to 500 tourists will choose the “floating” format of mandatory isolation.

From April, the Thai government will halve the mandatory quarantine period for foreign tourists vaccinated against COVID-19 and reduce the period of isolation from 14 to 10 days for those who have not been vaccinated but have tested negative for covid PCR when entering the country.
