In England discovered a new strain of coronavirus. Will Russia stop flights to London?

Last week, the British Ministry of Health announced the discovery of a new form of COVID-19, which is spreading faster than the previous one.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the COVID-19 mutation is 70% more contagious than the original variant of the virus. There is no evidence that the new mutation provokes severe forms of the disease or is characterized by increased mortality.

Johnson has announced new restrictions in London and the south-east of England. After England, the authorities of Scotland and Wales announced the tightening of measures.

Belgium, Italy, Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands on December 20 announced a ban on air communication with the UK, the same plans have France. From December 21 to January 6, Germany will cease passenger flights to the UK. In Berlin, intend to achieve a pan-European ban on flights to the United Kingdom from December 21 to January 6, and insist on stopping rail communication.

Russia did not interrupt flights with the UK. According to the operational headquarters to prevent the importation and spread of coronavirus infection, “the situation is under control.”

Russia-UK flights resumed from August 1. Regular flights to London are operated by Aeroflot and British Airways.

The Russian government can support the position of European countries and until the epidemiological situation in the UK improves, it will stop flights to London.

“The situation is unprecedented. Most likely, due to the rapid increase in the incidence in the UK, flights to this country may be suspended.

If air traffic with the UK is stopped, Russians choosing transit flights will have an alternative: connections in Istanbul, Dubai, Zurich. Russian carriers operate cargo and passenger flights to Frankfurt, Rome, Paris and other European cities.
