Entry to the EU should change from 2022

In 2022, Europe’s visa policy will change with the introduction of the European Travel Information System (ETIAS).

The official rationale is to "improve EU border security and reduce the threat of terrorism and other serious crimes." ETIAS will operate for tourism and business travel, used for transit through Schengen countries.

Tourists after the introduction of the system to submit an online application will be convenient, through a special form, indicating “several basic personal and passport data”. The visa fee is paid immediately.

The tourist will be checked by the Schengen Information System, the Visa Information System and Europol data. It is planned to create an ETIAS surveillance list with data on potential criminals.

The developers hope that the introduction of ETIAS will bring additional benefits to Europeans: applicants will need to answer health-related questions, and people with certain infectious diseases will be blocked from entering to minimize epidemic risks, as well as save on quarantine measures. This idea was influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

ETIAS is beneficial for travellers: visitors from eligible non-EU countries will benefit from this system. ETIAS holders will be able to spend up to 90 days out of a 180-day period in Europe. ETIAS will be a multiple entry permit: third-country nationals can visit Europe several times while the permit is in force.
