Lisbon

Lisbon lights

Description:

If you are in the center of Largo do Chiado and look around, you can hardly see anything very remarkable, rather it can be felt, especially in the evening, when the whole of Lisbon puts on a masquerade outfit. In this bohemian setting, it is difficult to decide where to spend your time: in the San Carlos Theatre, or in the outdoor cafe of Brasileira, or in the Bayro Alto zucchini, or to spend money on souvenirs in small shops. Maybe it's better to stay here to feel this romantic atmosphere. Let Kamoens decide for you, who for a long time stands in the center of the square as an indispensable participant in this endless spectacle.

Observation platforms, lanterns, lighting on the streets all this will help create the mood for a walk around the night city.

On the way?

After sunset, the Alfama area was taken over by the fadu. A stone’s throw from the Patriarchal Cathedral, a lover of exotic music can join the most famous genre of Portuguese song. Fado for Alphama is like a samovar for Tula. The music of ordinary people could only be born in such a typical neighborhood. There is no greater reward for a Portuguese poet than to see his work accepted by the world of Fado performers.

Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935), one of the greatest Portuguese poets, wrote:

An old song in a nearby tavern:

How many like you've been paying attention to.

Look, in the dark, staring at the evening,

And for no reason I fall into anguish.

If I didn't know that old song,

It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter.

The heart is bleeding with a guitar.

We are out of tears or we would cry.

Called by whom she came from.

This sadness, not mine and nobody's?

Everyone on earth is equally evil.

The past is the eternal pain of being.

Life is coming to an end, soon into the dark.

Sad song, sad news.

There's only what's still there.

(translated by E. Vitkovsky)

There are Fado performers whose fame has reached the most remote corners of the world. Among them, in the first place is Amalia Rodrigues, the greatest voice of Fado, who sounded in the USSR at a time when there were not even diplomatic relations between our countries.

The tour of the Portuguese pop singer Amalia Rodriguez was successfully held in Moscow, Leningrad, Tbilisi, Yerevan, Baku.

Another Fado singer, Marisa, not only inherited Amalia’s qualities, but also took Fadista’s skills to a new level.

Since 27 November 2011, Fado has been on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List.

After exploring Lisbon in the evening, you can go to dinner with the fado.
