The monument to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is a monument located in the center of the city of Tver along the street. Soviet, 34. The bronze figure of the leader, whose sculptor was S.D. Merkurov, was discovered in 1926, but at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, German artillery destroyed the monument.
It is known that on the pedestal of the monument, the developer of which was D.N. Melchakov, the German occupiers installed a fascist emblem, which was removed only after the liberation of the city.
At the end of hostilities in the city of Tver, S.D. Merkurov promised to restore the monument, and in the period from 1942 to 1959 on the preserved pedestal stood a temporary concrete sculpture of Lenin, which in 1959 was replaced by a restored bronze bust. Its sculptors are the students of Mercurov – V.P. Kening and P.V. Barkov. Since then, the appearance of the monument has not changed.
