What is jet lag and how to cope with it when traveling?

Description:

Vacation of many travelers after a long flight can overshadow symptoms such as insomnia, lethargy and a sudden change of mood. Their cause is often a change of time zones. This phenomenon was called "jetlag", which means a temporary disorder of sleep and wakefulness, accompanied by a general malaise of the body as a result of flights through various parts of the world.

However, this is not a reason to cancel the long-awaited trip or fear the upcoming flight. There are ways to make it easier to survive jet lag and quickly adapt to the new time regime.

What to do before the flight?

First, you can adjust your schedule to a new time zone a couple of days before departure. So you don’t spend time on vacation to adapt to a new place.

Secondly, you should not spend a sleepless night before the flight or actively engage in sports. Give preference to rest - massage, sleep, visiting the bath, light warm-up.

Third, give up alcohol and do not abuse caffeine.

What to do during the flight?

  • Drink water without gas. This will help your body adapt to a new place faster. In addition, hydration is very important during flight.
  • Try to sleep on the plane. This way you will pass the time in the flight, and you will not feel tired after it. And do not forget about a sleep mask, noise-cancelling headphones and a travel cushion for a comfortable rest!
  • No alcohol or caffeine. During the flight, they can only aggravate the symptoms of jet lag.

What to do after landing?

  • Spend time in the fresh air. Even if it is already night at the place of arrival, take a short walk at your place of arrival or ventilate the room well.
  • Don’t plan too much rest in the first few days. Give your body the opportunity to adapt to the new climate and time zone.
  • Keep the water balance. If you do not drink enough water, you can get mild dehydration, which can also affect the onset of symptoms of jet lag.

To sum up, today, unfortunately, it is impossible to completely defeat such a phenomenon as jet lag. But knowing a few tricks, you can prepare for the journey ahead of time and help your body avoid such stress. Remember that there are different methods for each tourist, so experiment and choose the ones that work best for you.

Experienced travelers know that many countries around the world require a visa.
