Vevey

Kaye Chocolate Factory - performance and tasting

Description:

Did you know that solid chocolate in candy and tiles was “born” in Switzerland and was first sold by prescription as a medicine? In 1819, a native of Vevey, a charming town on the shores of Lake Geneva, where our journey will begin, the merchant F.-L. Caye invented a new kind of chocolate - hard, in tiles and candy. A talented pharmacist A. Nestlé helped him in this, measuring doses of candies, nuts or raisins, giving each tile a unique taste. The business of the House of Caye went only well, that a year later on the site of the former mill in the suburb of Vevey (Vevey) was built the world's first factory for the production of tile chocolate, and the town itself has since been considered the birthplace of Swiss Chocolate. Having strolled along the embankment of C. Chaplin, which preserved the traces of Gogol and Byron, having inspected the Alimentarium - the Food Museum, having been photographed against the background of the Vilki - the monument to Eda, we will return to the famous 15th century Trade Square, on which the oldest hotel of the coast stands, the house where J.J. Rousseau, expelled from Geneva, fled, and the most delicious cheese shop on the coast is located. From here, our road lies in the Grueir-fairytale country, where smiling cows live, milk rivers flow, bordered by cheese banks. After all, it was here that natural milk began to be used for the production of chocolate, condensed milk began to be produced and still do confiture au lait-literally, jam from milk or boiled condensed milk. From others, it is distinguished by a high percentage of cocoa butter, a very delicate and homogeneous cream structure. In order to obtain such a product, referring to the long tradition of chocolate production, the Swiss strictly adhere to certain rules: Use only Swiss natural milk from 56 local farms and alpine pastures. By the way, the Gruyère region also produces unique, delicious double cream, and the delicious cheese changes its taste from salt to caramel-nut during aging, which are definitely worth trying! Cocoa beans are used only by the elite class, they are imported from Ecuador, Venezuela, Ghana, from the island of Madagascar, from the Ivory Coast. An interesting fact should also be noted: all pastry chefs are exclusively men, and women only help to package and sell chocolate masterpieces. Having made a tour of the Fribourg Alps, we will find ourselves in the cozy town of Bro, surrounded by mountains, where one of the best and largest chocolate factories in Switzerland, the House of Kaye, is located! Here you will see the exciting show “History of Swiss Chocolate”, learn everything about cocoa varieties, ancient ways of its delivery to Europe, the history of the discovery and evolution of chocolate, observe the process of its manufacture, taste it personally, and be able to buy different varieties of Swiss chocolate, which, by right, is considered the best in the world.
