Navruz
Description:
At all times, among the most joyful events in people’s lives was the arrival of spring. Different people have noted it differently. But everything is like a holiday of the revival of nature, the celebration of life, hopes for a generous harvest year.
Translated from Farsi, Nowruz means “new day.” Nowruz, which is celebrated on March 21, is considered the beginning of the new year. As you know, March 21 is the day of the spring equinox. The duration of day and night is the same – 12 hours. On March 21, the Earth enters a period of astronomical equality. And yet, on this day the seasons in the hemispheres change: if in the southern hemisphere comes autumn, then in the northern - spring.
Many great people of the past associate the beginning of the celebration of Nowruz with the name of Shah Jamshid. This is what Omar Khayyam wrote in his book Navruz Name:
As for the reason for the establishment of Nowruz, it is that, as is known, the Sun has two revolutions, one of which is such that every 365 days and a quarter of a day it returns in the first minutes of the constellation Aries at the same time of day when it came out, and every year this period decreases.
When Jamshid realized this day, he called it Nowruz and introduced the holiday into the custom. Kings and other people followed him.
Yeah, it's springtime. Warm days come, nature wakes up and begins to change its decorations. People prepare for this holiday very carefully and celebrate 15-20 days. In the days before Nowruz, Khashars pass everywhere in the mahalla (as we call the quarters) - people around the world clean aryks, whiten trees, dig up gardens.
Every mahalla has its own teahouse. And every mahalla in its teahouse celebrates Nowruz. In the teahouse in huge cauldrons, delicious dishes are prepared. Residents of the mahalla, as well as residents of the neighboring mahalla, are invited to the holiday. Navruz is also celebrated in families. It's a big celebration! All relatives gather in the house. There are only a few dishes that are prepared only for the Navruz holiday. This is Sumalak, Halim (Khalisa) and a special tugram plov.
How's sumalak prepared? Grow wheat grains. Pass them through a meat grinder, put in a casket, pour water, add flour and cook for 10-12 hours, and at the same time stir all the time. Interestingly, they put smooth stones and walnuts in the shell in the Kazan - so that again it does not burn. And whoever gets a nut or a pebble is considered lucky. It's a very sweet thing, even though it doesn't add sugar.
Nowruz is more than just a holiday. How many centuries of Navruz, so much and believe that the more fun and joyful it will pass, the more generous nature will be to people. Therefore, the ritual songs of Nowruz are poured on this day, people dance and merry, rejoice in the arrival of spring, give each other gifts, help orphans and the poor.
So you, dear guests, will have a place to go and see, as well as take part in the cooking of sumalak. We're waiting for you.
