"Once Upon a Time in Old Denmark"

Description:

If you want to not only see Denmark, but also learn its history through the traditional folk cuisine preferred by Hans Christian Andersen, then this tour is for you.

We will travel through time and walk around Copenhagen by Andersen’s “gastronomic route”, and the appearance of the noble Danish folk cuisine will become more distinct and clear. In the process of walking, we will walk along the stone pavements on which the storyteller walked, go to the favorite places of Andersen, who loved tasty and varied food and try the dishes he preferred. And, of course, we will visit the house where Anderson lived.

Walk past the Royal Academy of Arts, which overlooks the romantic old Newhavn Harbour.

On the embankment lined up, tightly pressed against each other, colorful houses of the XVII-XVIII centuries. They are cheerful not only coloring, but also because almost everyone on the ground floor or in the basement found a place sailors beer, bars, taverns.

In one of these taverns on the banks of the canal, where there are old schooners smelling of sea and fish with carved bushprits, rusty anchors, lowered red sails and high masts ... we will try more than 12 types of dishes from Danish herring, prepared according to ancient Viking recipes. You will learn what a real Danish homemade samol... and moonshine. Yes, yes, it was with potato moonshine that the history of the national drink of the Danes, aquavita, began. You will have to choose from 15 types of “living water”. And of course, beer! A sea of delicious freshly brewed beer for which Denmark is so famous.

Then we will move to the medieval part of the city, talk about the medieval history of Copenhagen, reach the oldest city square and frontal place and go to one of the oldest restaurants in the city, where Andersen loved to dine and where he was not alone.

It was in this restaurant that Andersen invited Ennie Lind, the unshared love of his life, one of the most talented opera singers of the XIX century. It was Enny who dedicated his most famous fairy tales - "The Snow Queen", "The Nightingale" and "The Little Mermaid".

What was served at that restaurant?

So, His Majesty's Smorrebrod is on stage! Smorrebrod is much more than a sandwich. It is the king of Danish cuisine, the pride of the country’s finest restaurants and the heart of Danish culinary art! The most famous Smerrebred bears the name of Hans Christian Andersen himself (his favorite!). On the menu are hot bacon, liver pathe with truffles, milky calf clipping, asparagus, North Sea shrimp, caviar, fried flounder, low-salt salmon, duck meat, tender roast beef... The art of the Danish sandwich is akin to ikebana with elements of feng shui. Everything should be not only meaningful, but also beautiful, as in a fairy tale!

Andersen's fairy tales still live today. We still remember the magical stories of Kai, Gerda and the Snow Queen. About the Little Mermaid who gave her charming voice to be near her beloved, turning into the foam of the sea - so paying for love. About the poor ugly duckling, who was expelled from the bird's yard, and when he turned into a beautiful white swan, they bowed to the beauty of this bird. About a resistant tin soldier and a paper ballerina who burned in the fire, but stayed together.

However, what to tell... Let's try it!
