Bulgaria hopes to open "green tourist corridor" with Russia
The press service of the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria reports that Bulgaria We hope for the early restoration of international tourism at least within the framework of the “green corridors”, one of the countries with which the republic wants to conclude an agreement on this issue should be Russia.
“The restoration of international tourism and the free movement of travelers between countries is the basis of tourism activities, which is why it is so important to take measures to conclude bilateral agreements to create “green tourist corridors” with a number of key entry markets of Bulgaria, in particular with Israel, Russia, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and the United Kingdom,” said Marianu Nikonova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria.
The minister notes that in recent weeks the situation in the industry has improved: from December 1, 2020 to mid-February 2021, more than 550 thousand tourists stayed in hotels in the country. Most of them are citizens of the country (480 thousand), the rest are guests from Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, Serbia.
According to Nikolova, the incoming tourist flow in the summer will be comparable to the figures of 2020. The start of the season will be complicated by low booking depth, low air travel volumes and slow vaccination campaigns in other European countries.
According to Bulgarian media, the launch of the summer season is expected at the end of May, if the situation with the covid does not deteriorate. The rate is primarily for local residents who previously went on vacation abroad in the summer. As for foreign guests, they will prefer small resorts, and choose accommodation in guest houses rather than in large hotels.
Mariana Nikolova noted the importance of vaccination for citizens engaged in tourism, they must deliver vaccinations before the summer.
