What do you need to know about connecting flights across Europe to save money and tickets?

More states are removing a blanket ban on international flights, but strict air passenger requirements remain.

Officially, Russia opened air traffic with Turkey. Tanzania. UAE. Egypt (Cairo) Maldives. Belarus. Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan. Britain. Yu. Korea. Cuba. Switzerland.

Regular passenger flights from Russia to the EU countries are now prohibited, airlines with the consent of the aviation authorities give them other statuses: repatriation or cargo. Theoretically, tickets for such flights are available for free sale. But then what?

If a passenger has no reason to enter the EU, he will not be allowed on such an aircraft. A Schengen visa cannot be used as a basis.

European citizenship or residence permit in one of the European countries is required. Several official reasons to enter the EU: medical reasons, a visit to relatives, a diplomatic passport, etc.

If a passenger uses one of the airports in Europe as a transfer hub on the way somewhere to Mauritius, then without the specified grounds, a flight to the EU from Russia may not be allowed.

Therefore, Russians often require two transfers on the way to distant resorts, rather than one, as Belarusians and Ukrainians.

First you need to get to an open hub – most often in Istanbul. And from there to the destination with a transfer in Europe. On the one hand, Turkey is included in the list of countries where flights from Russia are allowed, and on the other hand, Europe accepts flights from Turkey.

Strict sanitary measures in Europe are being tightened due to the second wave of the virus. Entry to EU countries for tourism is allowed to citizens of 11 countries - Russia is not on the list.

Having a valid Schengen visa means nothing: you will not be allowed to enter Europe with it. You can use as a transit one of the officially designated airports: Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona.

For a smooth connection in Europe, you need to fly from Russia to one of the permitted countries. For example, in Turkish Istanbul. The ticket from Istanbul to the end point of the trip should be "one" - Istanbul-Mauritius, not two: Istanbul-Paris and Paris-Mauritius.

In the case of a “single” ticket for the European docking and transfer of baggage to another aircraft, the airline responds, it takes the passenger out of the EU.

For the same reason, two or more transfers at European airports are currently inaccessible to Russians. Even with a visa and a “single” ticket, as the flight between the two countries of Europe is considered domestic, and for Russians the borders are closed.

According to experts, if the situation develops positively, Russians will be able to visit Europe in early 2021. In case of negative developments, this period will be postponed until at least spring.
