Major Russian airlines almost halved the price of domestic flights
Vedomosti believes that the decline in prices occurred due to poor demand.
The publication came to this conclusion when it compared the cost of the most affordable tickets from Moscow to the 15 cities with the highest traffic. Tickets with departure in September - October are tens of percent cheaper than in early summer. Vedomosti called this situation abnormal, usually the closer the flight date, the higher the cost of tickets.
The largest domestic carrier of the last four months - S7 Airlines - halved the price of the flight Moscow - Ufa, the most affordable tickets for September - October - 3 thousand rubles.
Tickets to Krasnodar (up to 3600 rubles), Perm (up to 4000 rubles), Sochi (up to 3000 rubles), Novosibirsk (up to 7300 rubles) fell by 40%.
Ticket prices to Samara, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk fell by 25-35%, to Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Volgograd and Irkutsk by 10-20%. Tickets to St. Petersburg (2500 rubles) and Mineralnye Vody (4000 rubles) are sold at the old price.
Aeroflot also reduced the cost of autumn flights: compared to the beginning of summer, flights to Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar fell by 40%, to Samara, Perm and Irkutsk - by 30%, to Omsk, Kazan, Mineral Waters and Krasnoyarsk - by 20%, to St. Petersburg and Sochi - by 15%.
The cost of flights is declining, despite the recovery of air traffic in Russia, which decreased in the spring due to restrictions on coronavirus infection. “The holiday season helped to recover in the summer. Delayed demand for vacation is largely satisfied, tickets for the fall sold very poorly, – said the employee of a large airline.
Another reason for the decline in demand is the deterioration of the financial condition of Russians. “We see in the outgoing summer that people still have not regained their financial capabilities and are ready to fly only at even lower prices than usual offers “Victory”, – said the Director of low-cost airline Andrey Kalmykov.
According to him, in the summer, Pobeda sold tickets 2-3 times cheaper than in the same period of 2019, in the fall, the low-cost airline will offer tickets two times cheaper compared to the fall of 2019.
Aeroflot spokeswoman Yulia Spivakova said that the company “expected tough – including price – competition for the passenger, these forecasts were generally justified.”
