“We expect a reduction in tourist traffic by 70% of the standard indicators for navigation in 2020,” Konstantin Anisimov said. The reason, according to him, is not only the late start of navigation – in fact, two months have been missed, but also the complete absence of foreign tourists. “At the same time, almost half of cruise ships work with the foreign market on the route Moscow – St. Petersburg,” the expert said.

There is some hope for September, if international air traffic is restored by then. Overall, he said, "the pandemic has dealt a devastating blow to the cruise shipping industry."

However, the expert tries to remain optimistic: "Already this year everything will begin to recover, and navigation next year will be in full," the head of Rosmorrechflot said.

Experts of cruise companies confirm that the year will be unprofitable. This year we were unable to start navigation as usual in April. We lost two months. All cruise companies will lose a year, the difference is only in the amount of losses, said the director of the cruise tour operator Vodohod R. Bagautdinov.

The "minimization" measures include state aid, the opening of new routes and the likely extension of navigation until the end of November.

R. Bagautdinov noted that it is not planned to compensate for losses at the expense of the tourist - that is, price increases. “Cruises are not going to go up in price, even though there are additional costs ahead in this situation. These include expenditures on sanitation, etc.”
