The Russian government has found a way to increase the flow of tourists
The State Duma received a bill developed by the Russian government on the extension of the right to obtain a six-month tourist visa in the Russian Federation for foreign citizens.
Such a document can be issued on the basis of hotel reservation.
Now, in accordance with the law "On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation", foreign citizens on an ordinary tourist visa can travel in Russia for no more than a month or on the basis of the principle of reciprocity - up to six months.
The Cabinet believes that for the development of inbound tourism, it is necessary to simplify the visa regime.
To liberalize the rules of admission of foreigners, the authors of the bill propose to issue visas on the basis of confirmation of booking from the hotel, information about which is contained in a single list of classified hotels.
That is, the current requirement to present for obtaining a visa confirmation received from a company registered in the register of tour operators will be optional.
The proposed solutions will contribute to the achievement of the goals of the state programs “Foreign Policy Activity” and “Economic Development and Innovative Economy”, and will not require additional funding.
Visas for six months and simplification of the procedure for obtaining them are an opportunity to overcome the crisis in inbound tourism and a marketing move for our country.
Weaknesses in the field of entry rules have a positive effect on the market, are an impetus for the growth of tourist flow to Russia. This is evident in the case of electronic visas. The long term validity of entry documents will help expand the geography of travel, make them more accessible, and Russia will have a chance to become an interesting destination, including for long trips.
Andrey Yermak, Minister for Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad region, believes that the initiative will be effective if the visa becomes multiple.
Specialists of the travel industry call “grateful” tourists Europeans and Americans – they are interested in history and culture, love unique, non-standard projects – repeated trips will be in demand.
In the company "Intourist" attitude is positive. “A good, necessary measure to stimulate entry into Russia ... if the semi-annual visa is a single entry, it will allow for the postponement of the trip, which is relevant in connection with the pandemic.” If multiple, this is already an opportunity for return travelers.”
