European Commission to help undocumented couples reunite during pandemic
The online movement Love is not tourism is lobbying the authorities of different countries to remove travel restrictions during the pandemic COVID-19 for undocumented couples.
The issue concerns many Russians who have partners in foreign countries, including the EU, but have been separated for months.
For those who have a soul mate in most of the Schengen countries, the prospects for reunification are not clear - the EU does not give a deadline for the admission of Russians.
The Commission calls on EU members to allow unmarried partners of citizens and residents to enter Europe for reunification. The recommendations of officials in Brussels and requests from the public have been heard by many European countries: separated couples can meet in France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Finland, Austria, Switzerland.
To obtain an entry permit, partners must provide a package of documents proving the duration of the relationship: joint accounts, past correspondence, confirmation of joint travel, photos. Judging by the many happy posts on social media, this is possible.
You can join the initiative with the hashtags #LoveIsNotTourism and #LoveIsEssential on social networks. The initiative is supported by people all over the world: “This group is just great! <...> The number of separated couples in love is great!” People from different countries post their love stories and encounters after a long separation, and it is very touching.
