Representatives of the tourism industry predict the timing of the return of mass tourism
After the invention of the vaccine and the normalization of the situation, tourism will recover, but the world will not see mass flows for a long time. So says the General Director of the tour operator TEZ TOUR Voskan Arzumanov.
Voskan Arzumanov: Perhaps in 2021, people will get used to COVID-19, as they get used to everything in life, will become more prepared in terms of security measures: they put on a mask, washed their hands and went. But it is obvious that such tourism will not be massive – both for economic reasons and because of the reluctance to travel, as this involves additional risks of illness, being in a hospital in a foreign country, and so on.”
Tightening the requirements for sanitary standards will entail additional costs from hotels – for the purchase of equipment and various consumables, hiring staff, rent will rise due to a reduction in the number of suitable space.
“The standard of accommodation in resorts around the world will also change. Due to the restriction of the number of people who are simultaneously in cafes and restaurants, the cost of food and other services will increase, and as a result, their price for the end user. It is possible that some facilities will not cope with the crisis, and the rest will somehow have to survive. The easiest way to do this is to increase revenue, which inevitably leads to higher prices for services.”
According to Aruzmanov, for the entire population of the world, vacation will become less accessible, and the demand for travel will decrease.
According to the general director of the tour operator Dolphin Sergey Romashkin, vaccination and reduction of the incidence of the virus to isolated cases will allow tourists to believe in the end of the pandemic, psychological recovery should also occur.
Lyudmila Telitschko, an analyst at Promsvyazbank, noted that even if restrictions are lifted, there will be no widespread overtourism.
“The fear of being in a crowd is almost completely neutralized when the epidemiological situation has stabilized, and the risk of infection with severe consequences either disappears completely or the virus “remains with us” along with influenza and other seasonal diseases. But due to the decline in demand (reduced solvency of the population and the effect of a slow recovery), as well as due to the consolidation of a number of trends in the pandemic, such as the reorientation from museum tourism to health, environmental or even extreme, and the change in preferences in favor of individual trips, overtourism, we will not see for some time.
