President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry: “Industry at a low start”

Andrey Ignatiev, President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT): "Tourism in Russia on the eve of the summer tourist season expects the weakening and abolition of a number of restrictions in force in the country, according to forecasts, domestic tourist flow will grow significantly this year."

At an online press conference, Andrei Ignatiev said that a national tourism project will soon become active in Russia, and its main task will be the construction of infrastructure. We are waiting for the launch of the third cashback program from Rostourism. Tourism and facilities are ready to work, and the readiness, I believe, exceeds the expectations of tourists. The whole industry is at a low start in terms of lifting restrictions on movement by region ... we can expect some very active movement.

According to Ignatiev, the start of domestic tourism in 2020 was successful: Many tourists rested in the Krasnodar Territory, the first charters on the territory of the country were launched from tour operators who were traditionally engaged in outbound tourism - Baikal, Kaliningrad, Khakassia. We forecast the development of domestic tourism and an active increase in domestic tourist flow this year.”

As for outbound tourism destinations, Ignatiev believes that it is too early to talk about mass tourism, since before the pandemic, there were large volumes of charter transportation in the regions, and now a couple of flights per week are permissible, and not from all major cities of Russia.
